I used to think a quiet morning and the bustle of kids were mutually exclusive.

And by definition, they kind of are.

How then, does one have a peaceful morning watching the beautiful sunrise?

Get up earlier? Tried that. Kids, sensing a disturbance in the force, get up that much earlier, too.

👉 Invite the kids in & temporarily suspend-or redefine-notions of peace & quiet.

With the kids piled on my lap, in the midst of the myriad of "can you warm up my feet" "give me some space" "I want to sit by the baby" "stop pulling my hair" and a suspicious cough, we pause for beauty.

Here I am, grateful that the enjoyment of God's handiwork and the optimal environment are not mutually exclusive.

One day I'll get to watch the sunrise in silence with only a hot cup of tea to keep me company.

& it just might break my heart.

I tried to create an aesthetic video with the help

I tried to create an aesthetic video with the help of AI.

I told AI my mission and what I’m about, like leading with delight, joy in motherhood, faith, and intentional living.

Then I told it to create a storyboard for a 5 minute ✨aesthetic✨ video.

It gave some… interesting… things, some more realistic than others. I followed what I could but still tried hard to create a good video. (Like, it's weird to film myself smiling at my family sleeping peacefully lol.) Check it out! Stick around to see the behind the scenes of how I filmed it.

TAKE AWAY

Living an ✨aesthetic✨ life sure is a lot of work. I enjoy watching those kinds of videos as well as making them but it’s important to remember that they are a highlight reel. People’s lives don’t look like that (or maybe they do!) but mine sure doesn’t.

I’m here to remind you that a lot of effort goes into making something look effortless 🙂

The year is 2013 and you're on the cusp of turning

The year is 2013 and you're on the cusp of turning 20.

You're driving alone on the way to class. The only worry on your mind is trying to find a good parking spot. Backpack is in the backseat and thermos is in hand.

In the midst of the commuter traffic the sun peaks above the horizon. Mumford & Sons is blaring over the Toyota Corolla speakers, intentionally loud enough to drown out whatever weird noise the car is making. ('If you can't hear it, it doesn't exist'.. a nugget of wisdom you learned from your older sister.) It may be falling apart but you got a good deal on this starter car and it's not the rents van. You're grateful.

The bluegrass beats fill you with inspiration to dig deep into all things hipster.

This is freedom.

It feels like it was yesterday.

Oh wait, it was yesterday.

Pulled back to the present by that ache telling you it's time to pump.
You're a mom and you're on the cusp of 30.
You traded bluegrass for bottles and hipster for high chairs.

You're going back to campus but this time as a small business owner.
