Do you feel motherhood leaves you weak?
I read in a book this morning that “complication and struggle, just by their mere presence in our lives can often indicate we are out of the will of God.”
Hmmm.
Well motherhood is complicated and a struggle at times.. does that mean it is out of the will of God?
No.
We will struggle in this life. When we do, it shows that we are weak. (Yes, even supermoms.) That’s not exactly popular these days. We’re supposed to be able to do it all: work like we don’t have kids, stay home and train our kids like that’s our only responsibility, find time to take care of ourselves, cook healthy meals every day, keep the house clean, and then post about it on social media in an aesthetically pleasing way.
That to me sounds like the definition of complicated. Before I became a mom most of those things weren’t too difficult (that doesn’t mean I did all of them perfectly.. lol). But now I struggle to do even a fraction of those things.
Even if I get rid of all the things we’re “supposed” to do and just focus on training my child, it’s still a struggle sometimes. My patience is tested what feels like hourly by a very adorable yet mischievous toddler.
Does my struggle indicate that I am outside God’s will?
No way.
It means that I am human.
It means that I live in a fallen body.
And it means that I am weak.
But there’s hope.
It says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.”
Being weak provides us a chance to rely on God’s strength and to see his power transform us.
So mama, if motherhood seems difficult or complicated, that does not mean you weren’t meant to be a mother. God chose you.
He sees you.
He loves you.
And he has made a way for you.
Allow yourself to be weak for His power is made perfect in weakness.
