I know, it suprised me, too.

I never really did a deep dive on the gifts of the Spirit. I was told some gifts (prophecy, tongues, etc.) ceased and didn't really question it. I've been a 'functional cessationist' all my life.

Then God started doing some wild things that I couldn't ignore.

And now I believe we have a generous Heavenly Father who still loves to give these good gifts to His children.

It's been a year of pruning & destroying strongholds & unbeliefs. And as difficult as it was, I'm thankful for it.

The enemy is real. And fights dirty. Be on guard & stand firm. But do not fear. God has already won 🤍

If you're struggling to find joy in this season, this one is for you:

The groundhog, the one that’s been destroying our yard for the past year, locks eyes with me mere feet away. Taunting me. If only…

I’m sitting outside typing one-handed because a sick (read: tired, cranky, & heart-breakingly sad) child is resting on me. Bugs are attacking.

Heavy storms abound this week outside—and inside—the home. My husband is working over 80 hours. The matcha is cold, probably because its last reheat was hours ago.

The two older kids are supposed to be in quiet time but it’s anything but as I hear them conversing through the window with Mr. Pete, the neighbor, who politely obliges.

Oh, and my computer is flashing a warning for recharge. (Aren’t we all?)

Were I to capture this moment in a photo, it’d look peaceful…idyllic even. A mom soaking up the summer sunshine with a baby snuggled close and writing outside on a warm day.

And here’s the thing—that’s how I’ll remember it.

Not the mosquito bites, nor the fog that comes with doing the morning routine, bedtime routine, and everything in-between by myself for days on end. But a time when life slowed down and I was able to breathe and create.

It’s a mercy, really.

Memory has a strange kindness to it. It’s easy to forget about the trials one faced at the time. We look back with fondness of the past. We’re nostalgic for it.

How many times have we thought, “that was a really good year,” or “man, I loved that trip,” or “that was a nice house.”

All that was true. But also? That year was not without its difficulties, that trip had a lot of homesickness, and that place didn’t get the nickname ‘the bug-and-mold-house’ for no reason.

When reminiscing, our brains apply a rose-colored filter but is there a way we could capture that hindsight now?

One simple yes.

There were lots of reasons to say no: food needed to be made, kids needed to be clothed, we needed to get out the door on time for school, etc.

But I said no to no.

& that's why I'm playing with glow in the dark lightsabers with my 6 year old in the bathroom before 7am.

Here's your (& my) reminder to simply say yes sometimes.
